By George they've got it

England’s first working whisky distillery for more than 100 years has been celebrating the release of its inaugural 3yo, named Chapter 6.

Norfolk grain farmer James Nelstrop and his son Andrew, with the help of former Laphroaig man Iain Henderson, set up the St George’s Distillery in Norfolk in 2007, although David Fitt now holds the title of distillery manager. We asked whisky wizard Dave Broom to give us his verdict on the new spirit and he said: ‘Nose: Sweet with a tingling lift, like an old fashioned ginger beer. There's a touch of green grass behind and a little mustard/turnip top, which isn't unusual for an immature whisky. Palate: Spicy with a touch of dry cereal in the centre. It's young (obviously!), but already balanced. Verdict. A clean, well-made spirit. Worth watching.’

The first batch has inevitably already sold out but more is on the way, along with a peated single malt set for release in June.

RRP £34.99/70cl. For more information visit www.norfolkwhisky.co.uk
