It’s an exciting year for the South African wine industry, as football fever grips the host nation and the country gears up to welcome visitors from across the globe. To mark this momentous occasion Wines of South Africa is launching the inaugural Wines of South Africa Sommelier World Cup. The competition aims to seek out leading sommeliers, from around the world, and bring them together for a week-long Cape winelands extravaganza with winery visits, one-off tastings, fine dining in the country’s best restaurants and some spine-tingling adventures, all against the backdrop of the world’s most spectacular vineyards. If you haven’t tried a glass of cool Chenin Blanc while soaking up the view from the top of Table Mountain, you simply haven’t lived.
To register for the UK leg of the competition simply log on to www.wosasommeliercup.co.za and register your details.* The UK competition will
be held on 28 June 2010, in central London, and the winner from this round will travel to South Africa, with 11 other finalists from participating countries, to decide who will take home the
Wines of South Africa Sommelier World Cup. To find out who wins the UK heat see the Sept/Oct issue of Imbibe.
*All entrants must be available to travel to South Africa from 11-19 October 2010.
