You'll Never Tweet Alone
by Jo Eames
Marooned in an unfamiliar market town on the day of a crucial England match? Just tweet and you'll soon be amongst friends.
Within Peach, we've been talking a lot about how to use social networking in the pub business (with much head-scratching, as most of us are just too old to be digital natives.) Then the other day we saw the connective possibilities of Twitter in action.
Wednesday morning Tim Atkin tweeted that he was in Thame filming the wine segment for Saturday Kitchen, wanted to watch the match but was doomed to be Billy No Mates in a strange town. One of our gang saw his tweet and, as we have two pubs in Thame, we got in touch and invited him in to watch the game at The James Figg. When I dropped by just after kick-off he already had a glass of white wine and a hundred new friends. Result. Even before the final whistle.
Just goes to show that hospitality (defined by Dr Johnson as "the practice of entertaining strangers") is constantly evolving.
