Balcones, America’s most exciting craft whisky distillery, returns with its hotly contested competition… and the chance to win an incredible trip to Texas
This year is turning out to be a stellar one for a certain distillery in the Lone Star State.
Balcones has been celebrating a decade of distillation in numerous ways, including the release of its Balcones Rye 100 – a new permanent edition to the Balcones family of spirits.
The distillery has been racking up a raft of new awards, including Best Craft Distiller Whisky at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for its ‘1’ Texas Single Malt.
And in April the team welcomed Maria Viera from The East London Liquor Company, the winner of its first ever cocktail competition, to explore Texas. This year it could be you who wins the chance to hop across the Pond and discover the distillery, because the competition is back.
The challenge will again be centred around the brand’s iconic Baby Blue corn whisky, which is the first whisky to have been sold in Texas since Prohibition. Made with 100% roasted blue corn, it’s a full-bodied, complex spirit.
Bartenders are invited to create a Balcones Baby Blue cocktail – there will also be a mystery round on the day for finalists to showcase their talents. The chosen competitors will go head to head in London in September, where Balcones Head Distiller Jared Himstedt, Brand Ambassador Winston Edwards and last year’s winner, Viera, will be on the judging panel.
The winner will head to Waco in Texas on a VIP trip to visit the home of Balcones in 2019.
