Balcones, the ground-breaking Texan craft distillery, is teaming up with Imbibe for a cocktail competition that will see the winner head to its home state.
When Balcones broke onto the UK drinks scene in 2008, its innovative first product, Balcones Baby Blue, made the whisky connoisseurs sit up and take notice.
The first whisky to have been made in the state since Prohibition, not to mention the first to be made with roasted blue corn, this rich, oily corn gives a complex dram with a clear corn note, alongside bagnana, salted butter and spice. Made with 100% corn, it differs from a bourbon, which only requires 51% of the recipe to consist of corn.
Baby Blue has won numerous awards since its launch, including being awarded Double Gold at the San Francisco International Spirits Competition twice, and is an ideal addition to any whisky back bar alongside Balcones’ Single Malt and Brimstone, being a winning ingredient for both classic and innovative cocktails.
Bartenders are invited to create a Balcones Baby Blue cocktail. The chosen competitors will go head to head in London in September, where Balcones head distiller Jared Himstedt and brand ambassador Winston Edwards will be on the judging panel.
The winner will head to Waco in the Lone Star State on a VIP trip to visit the home of Balcones in 2018.
