As a point of difference, the cocktail competition – dubbed For Peat’s Sake – will crown a city its champion rather than an individual bartender. The aim? To find the Scottish city with the biggest passion for peat!
So how does it work? First, bars must create an original cocktail recipe using Elements of Islay Peat or Peat Full Proof. Then, they submit the recipe online and by posting a photo on Facebook or Instagram.
Three winning entries from each city represented will be chosen to team up. They’ll face off in the final on Monday 17 September. This last showdown will focus on teamwork, as Angus Russell, Speciality Brands’ business development manager for Scotland, pointed out:
‘Cocktail competitions need a revamp, especially up here in Scotland where we’re embracing the individuality of each city. We’re a competitive nation but in a united sense and thanks to the team element of this competition, it’s open to all levels of bartenders. No more stuffy judging and fluffy stories about how a cocktail was invented. This competition will challenge minds, senses, cocktail skill and physical ability to entertain whilst truly embracing the wonderful whiskies from Islay.’
Which Scottish city will take home the peaty glory? It could be yours!
