With the cocktail market now valued at half a million pounds in the UK alone, Matthew Clark is finally getting involved, launching a series of workshops and it first ever cocktail competition.
The rules to Stir It Up are simple, entrants are asked to create a 2018 Summer Cocktail, which should be made in under 90 seconds with five ingredients or less. The top 40 will then take part in regional heats across the UK, with the top two from each heat making it to the grand final on 10 April in London.
To prepare entrants for the competition, and to help outlets up their cocktail offering, Matthew Clark will also be running workshops across the UK throughout February. An online advice portol has also been launched, with a downloadable cocktail guide including service advice, visual merchandising and social media support.
So, what’s the prize? On top of ‘hero status’, the victor will win a five-night VIP trip to the US, stopping in Chicago and Louiseville, the birthplace of bourbon. This will be hosted by Maker’s Mark, Jim Beam and Knob Creek.
The competition is open to Matthew Clark customers only, however, anyone working in the On-Trade will be eligible to enter the competition as a ‘wildcard’ entry via social media. Sponsored by Pernod Ricard, four shortlisted entrants will compete in a ‘wildcard round ’in the live final. The finalist crowned the ‘Wildcard Winner’ will win a trip to the Pernod Ricard Bar Academy in Stockholm.
