Ever had the urge to whack out a sword during service and just slice the top off the champagne, instead of all the faff with easing the cork out?
Well, that’s where the Confrérie du Sabre d’Or com in, hosting a series of sabrage masterclasses at Covent Garden’s Smith & Wollensky, with the next on 13 June.
The art of Sabrage is meeting the glass annulus at the top of the bottle, below the cork with a firm tap of the sabre’s edge, at the weakest point of the glass seam in the bottle.
Impress your guests by learning the impressing trick of French Calvary officers, aided by the Commandeur of the Confrérie du Sabre d’Or.
Tickets are normally around £95 per person, pricey, but when it’s a life-long showstopping skill, who can put a price on it? (It also includes bottomless champagne and nibbles.)
