Imbibe – the leading drinks media brand in the UK – is looking for a superstar salesperson and drinks lover who isn’t afraid of pitching our brilliant products to everyone from an artisan gin distillery in the Outer Hebrides to the largest, premium global drinks boards.

It goes without saying, but we’ll say it anyway… you’ll need to love the drinks industry for this role. You’ll need to know your mezcal from your mastiha, your Malbec from your Merlot and your saisons from your stouts… or be willing to learn! And of course you need to love us and what we do.

That shouldn’t be too tough: we are the leading drinks media brand in the UK, after all, with a market leading B2B drinks show, an award winning magazine, a soon to be re-launched ground-breaking website, and the only sommelier-judged wine competition in the world.

This is a highly strategic role where you will not only be managing key accounts in the drinks industry but also heading up our new digital age with creative solutions and unique client-tailored events across the top spirits, soft drinks, beer and cider brands in the UK.

The successful candidate will be joining a crack team of drinks journalists, event producers, marketers and sales people who manage and work with a stellar roster of bartenders, sommeliers and specialist contributors.

Since the magazine’s launch in March 2007, Imbibe, and Imbibe Live have gone on to establish themselves as the UK’s leading community and information source for on-trade drinks professionals. Imbibe also has a flourishing online presence with its weekly email newsletter, and a burgeoning social media influence, particularly through Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Job spec:

Title: Key Account Manager
Reporting to: Sonja van Praag – Publishing & Events Director
This is a portfolio sales and management role across Imbibe’s core products:

  • exclusive on-trade website combining the magazine content and exhibition information with
    competitions and events
  • Imbibe Magazine: aimed at on-trade drinks buyers and professionals
  • Imbibe Live: annual exhibition at Olympia aimed at the same demographic
  • Sponsorship: annual awards – Personality of the Year, etc


Main purpose of job:

To sell digital, advertorial, competition and display commercial packages across, Imbibe magazines,
in addition to sponsorship and exhibition space at Imbibe Live and innovative sponsorships across all three products
to drinks and drinks-related clients across all sectors.

To drive forward the Imbibe brands with innovative new experiences, events and opportunities and to initiate a
digital and print strategy across all the products in a 360 approach going forward.

Key accountabilities:

  • Understanding of, or proven interest in, the drinks industry (in particular spirits – producers, distributors, wholesalers and agencies)
  • Ability to organise, plan, present and close sales
  • Drive to cold call new clients, and generate new business
  • Skill in establishing / managing relationships with high level business decision maker
  • Ability to pitch at client and agency level and work with agencies
  • To develop new ways of generating revenue (out of the box thinking actively encouraged)
  • To work with the publisher to ensure all marketing & distribution opportunities are maximised
  • Able to work in a close-knit team environment


Imbibe sectors

Premium spirits, wines, liqueurs, beers, ciders, waters, teas, coffees and on-trade related products and services such as snacks and technology

Knowledge and experience

  • Highly preferred that candidates have knowledge, contacts and experience within the drinks on-trade (in particular spirits) both from bars and from suppliers, distributors, and agencies
  • Digital sales experience across a range of products
  • Proven B2B or B2C Exhibition sales experience
  • Advertising and sponsorship sales experience
  • Experience of selling direct to clients at a high level
  • Knowledge of selling to advertising agencies
  • Understanding of both online and offline publishing preferable
