He’s one of the most divisive political leaders in living memory, providing inspiration for musicians, scriptwriters and artists around the world since he began his campaign for the President of the USA. And now Donald Trump has prompted two brewers to make some limited-edition beers in protest of his planned state visit to the UK in July.
Affinity Brew Co and Boutilliers have decided to collaborate and demonstrate how hopping mad they are with the President’s policies.
‘A few months ago, ourselves and Boutilliers, being of the left-leaning persuasion, got a bit angry at the prospect of Donald Trump being allowed to visit our fair nation, and decided that we should do something about it, however small,’ explains Affinity Chef de Parties Ben Duckworth.
‘The result is a pair of collaboration beers, both based around orange – for hopefully obvious reasons! – we’ll be going out on the London march on July 13 and pressing these little beauties into people’s hands. They’ll also be released in a selected group of pubs and bars around the country in the week leading up to Trump’s visit.’
The beer will be available on draught, while Affinity’s Blood Orange and Cranberry Saison will also be in can, and Boutilliers’ Anti-Trump Fruit Saison in bottle.
There’s also going to be a launch event at Affinity’s tap room on 6 July in Bermondsey, for anyone interested in joining.
As President Trump is set to grace the UK with his presence, Duckworth certainly doesn’t hold back in his opinion: ‘This feels like a watershed moment in UK history; never before has a foreign visitor caused so much outrage, anger, sheer disbelief as this divisive, bigoted shambles of a man… We want to drive the debate forward and make people think about what’s happening on their doorsteps!’
