In honour of its close ties with the home of maple syrup, Innis & Gunn is bringing a taste of Canada to Scotland with a limited release and one hell of a bash.
As Canada turns 150 years young, the Scottish brewer has launched a limited-edition amber ale with the famous flavours of the two nations: Canadian maple and the Scottish thistle.
Maple & Thistle (see what they did there?) is said to be packed with flavour and aromas of toffee, vanilla, oak, citrus, smoky maple and orange oil. It’s available exclusively from the Innis & Gunn online shop and in the Innis & Gunn Beer Kitchens.
Why all the love? Canada was the first international market for Innis & Gunn, when it began exporting its beers outside of the UK two years after the business was founded in Edinburgh by master brewer, Dougal Gunn Sharp.
It quickly grew a loyal fan base of beer drinkers, so much so it is now Innis & Gunn’s biggest export market, where six million bottles were sold in 2016, contributing almost a quarter to the total annual sales globally.
As well as launching the beer, Canada Day on 1 July will be celebrated at the brand’s Beer Kitchens in Edinburgh and Glasgow. If you’re a Canadian national and can’t make it back to your homeland for Canada Day, then head to any Innis & Gunn Beer Kitchen and you’ll get 15% discount on your family and friend food bill.
‘We have an enthusiastic following amongst Canadian craft drinkers who love the rich flavour and quality in our beers, and we couldn’t let the Canada Day 150-year milestone pass without creating something special for our Canadian friends to enjoy, which I hope they will love,’ Sharp said.
The Innis & Gunn Beer Kitchens in Edinburgh and Glasgow have also been selected as two of only 150 bars in the UK to participate in The Official 150 Canada Birthday Celebrations organised by the Canadian High Commission.
Maple & Thistle will be available exclusively on draught and at the company’s online store.
