London’s first urban cidery and taproom arrives

Drinks: Beers, Ciders, Drinks

London’s first urban cidery and taproom has landed smack in the middle of London’s Beer Mile, in Bermondsey.

The brainchild of Simon Wright, founder of Urban Orchard Cider and Hawkes Ginger Beer, Hawkes’ metal’n’wood-clad Taproom sits next to a serious apple mill and press set-up, and vertiginous stainless steel tanks.

Cidermaking will take place all year, says Wright, and he plans to start a barrel-ageing programme.

With 12 taps offering a global mix of ciders including their own, plus a 50-strong bottle list, Wright plans to open the taproom doors ‘to any cidermaker who shares the same vision. The time for progression in the cider category is now, and we urge the whole category to embrace this opportunity.’
