For his fiftieth birthday Paul Heaton hit the road. The independent pub and ale enthusiast, pub owner and, most notably, The Beautiful South and The Housemartins singer, concluded a 2,500 mile cycle tour of his favourite pubs last week.
Covering 50 miles for every year of his life, Heaton travelled for 40 days throughout the UK and Ireland, performing live at 33 pubs. He intended for the tour, in part, to promote the British pub.
To set the tone, Heaton started his epic cycle ride at his own pub, The King’s Arms in Salford, ending up at The Pelton Arms in London.
