Small Beer gains Steam as it rides the lower alcohol wave
Last month, Imbibe reported that low and no alcohol could be the biggest trend in beer since craft, and thanks to brewers like Small Beer Brew Co, this movement shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
Its latest release, Steam Lager, is a rich, red rye with a tropical nose, a backbone of citrus and a balanced hop bitterness.
The beer sits above the 1.2% cut-off for the ‘low alcohol’ label at 2.7%.
Still, the brewery is firmly rooted in the low/no trend that’s sweeping the beer scene. Its other brews, a lager and a dark lager, come in at 2.1% and 1.0%, respectively – making Steam its booziest beer to date.

New beer Jubel offers lighter, gluten-free lager
The beer sports two variations – one infused with peach essence, and one infused with elderflower. The flavours were inspired by the shandy-like French beverage demi-pêche.
‘After stumbling on demi-pêche on a ski trip, we couldn’t find anything like it back home,’ said Jubel co-founder Jesse Wilson. ‘It was the beer style we wanted to drink that no one brewed.’
According to the brand, the product ‘sits between the beer and cider categories’ due to its marriage of fruity flavour and sessionability.
In addition to being vegan and gluten-free, Jubel touts itself as a ‘lighter’ lager, coming in at 125kcal.

Wadworth Gold opens up to the vegan market
Wadworth is taking its free from game to the next level. After introducing the gluten-free beer 6X Gold to its range last year, the Wiltshire-based company has revamped its brewing process to make the beer vegan, as well. This means replacing finings made from isinglass – a form of collagen made from fish – with finings made from silicate and polysaccharides instead.
The beer still promises the same flavour profile as it did prior to its plant-based days. As a golden ale, it boasts classic notes of sweet malt and spice.
