Champagne Pommery appoints Clément Pierlot as winemaker

Champagne Pommery has appointed a new chef de cave, who has overseen the maison’s 2017 harvest. Clément Pierlot becomes the maison’s 10th winemaker and takes over from Thierry Gasco, who is now directing Clément Pierlot winemakerPommery’s sparkling winemaking in California, England and the South of France.

Pierlot has been a vineyard director at Vranken-Pommery Monopole since 2004; joining the company at the age of 24. In 2010, he became part of the Vranken tasting panel and four years later, in 2014, he took control of oenological development for champagne, as well as overseeing Pommery’s English sparkling wine: Louis Pommery.

Prior to joining Pommery, Pierlot had gained wine experience in Italy and Canada, as well as working at other champagne houses.

‘Clément’s daily involvement with wine development and his proven environmental commitment meant that he was a natural choice to become the 10th cellar director for Champagne Pommery,’ commented Sara Hicks, UK director for Champagne Pommery.

Vranken-Pommery Monopole is the second largest Champagne group in the world. Its labels include Vranken, Pommery, Heidsieck & Co Monopole and Champagne Charles Lafitte.
