The deal, which includes Atom’s distribution arm Maverick Drinks and online retailer Master of Malt, comes hot on the heals of AB InBev’s backing of C&C’s acquisition of Bibendum and Matthew Clark earlier in the month.
Michael Vachon, head of brand development and co-founder of Maverick Drinks, was typically enthusiastic about the news, and emphasised it’s ‘business as usual’ for the company and its customers.
‘We came here to change the game and I think now we’re supercharged to do so! It’s a hugely exciting time after five years of hustle, but now I think the real work begins,’ he told Imbibe.
‘Practically speaking, nothing is changing from our end… except growth. No changes in management, no changes to our portfolio, and – most importantly – absolutely no changes to the way we work.’
Petszaft described it as ‘an amazing moment’ for the business.
‘[We’ve] gone from working out of a shed in Kent to one of the UK’s fastest-growing companies, he said.
‘We’ve always been a technology-focused business, building our e-commerce platform from scratch to give consumers the best experience possible and we recognised a kindred spirit in ZX Ventures, in its mission to innovate, grow and answer new consumer demands.’
The acquisition marks ZX Venture’s most significant investment in the spirits space to date. Since its inception in 2015, it has snapped up a number of international beer companies, including Camden Town Brewery and online beer seller Beer Hawk in the UK.
