Bowland Brewery becomes Cask Marque’s tenth Centre of Excellence

Cask Marque, the leading provider of beer cellar management training in the UK, has added Bowland Brewery to its list of accredited Centres of Excellence.

As of next year, Lancashire-based Bowland Brewery will become the tenth venue in the UK to offer training courses for the BIIAB Award in Beer & Cellar Quality (ABCQ).

The course is a mix of classroom-based learning, practical assessments and interactive exercises. Aimed at bar and pub licensees and their staff, it focuses on cask ale handling and managing keg dispense, with the final goal of improving beer quality, cellar hygiene and wastage reduction.

This year’s Cask Marque report revealed that these are areas that are frequently mishandled by pub operators, and that bad experiences with out of condition beer can stop customers coming back.

‘We are delighted to bring on board Bowland Brewery as one of our training venues,’ said Cask Marque Director Paul Nunny, ‘the facilities offered by the brewery, and the Beer Hall at Holmes Mill, are among the best in the country.’

Bowland joins Black Sheep, Caledonian, Fuller’s, Greene King, Marston’s, Palmer’s, Robinsons, Thwaites, and Wadworth as a registered Cask Marque Centre of Excellence.
