This Wednesday saw two heavyweight competitions take place: Diageo Reserve’s World Class and the first heat of Imbibe‘s own Bartenders v Sommeliers. Only problem was, Andy Mil from London Cocktail Club had his name down for both. It must have been a tough call, as the first offered the prizes of an all-expenses-paid trip to Rio and the title of UK’s best bartender as opposed to the bragging rights over sommeliers available through the latter.
In the end though, the glitz and glamour of the Brazilian capital won out, and we’re delighted for Mil that it did, as he only went and won the bloody thing! After two days of competition with team GB’s finest, facing a daunting 13-judge panel at London’s ultra-plush Syon Park hotel, Mil’s charm and skill won out and secured his victory.
Looking ever-so slightly shell-shocked, Mil was hugged and hand-shook from all angles as he repeated, ‘I never thought this would happen… I didn’t think I was getting past the first round!’ World Class Global Brand Ambassador, Spike Marchant, was more confident in Mil’s abilities though, saying of the win: ‘Demonstrating an excellent palate and awareness of flavour, depth of drinks knowledge and precise bartending skills, Andy shone in creating inventive and unique cocktails and very much deserved to be crowned our UK winner.’
Congratulations Mr Mil, from all at Imbibe and we wish you the very best of luck in Rio.
