This Saturday’s celebration of all things Japanese in London’s Spitalfields Market presents a good opportunity to get involved in some sake tasting.
Known as Japan Matsuri (which means ‘festival’ in Japanese), this one-day annual event launched last year. This year the matsuri is bigger than before, expanding into the Old Spitalfields Market. The food and drink section is a significant part, alongside arts, crafts and clothing stalls. In addition to the sake stalls, Japanese beer and soft drinks will also have a presence.
It’s been a good week for sake, with a number of events being held across the capital. Saki Bar & Food Emporium near Smithfields Market hosted a sake tasting dinner on Tuesday, while Wednesday saw a ‘Grand Sake Tasting & Seminar’ hosted by the Japan Foundation.
The matsuri runs from 10am to 8pm this Saturday 18 September. For more information, visit the Japan Matsuri site.
