Location: Mexico, UK

The capital is gearing up for its first ever London Mezcal Week, which is due to start on Monday 11 September. The UK has been falling under the smoky spell of mezcal for the last five years, so it was only a matter of time before a festival dedicated to the spirit reached these shores. But which events are worth looking in on when you work in the trade? We combed through the programme to find out…

Mezcal sampler with mezcal master Jon Anders
3pm-7pm, Tuesday 12 September
What Jon Anders doesn’t know about agave isn’t worth knowing. He’ll be taking attendees through a tasting of five Del Maguey products, and guests will also receive a welcome cocktail too. Four hours of mezcal chat and tasting, all for £5.
Santo Restaurant, 299 Portobello Road, W10 5TD

‘The future of mezcal’: a panel discussion with blind mezcal tasting
7pm-10pm, Wednesday 13 September
A stellar line-up of European tequila ambassador Tomas Estes, Speciality Brands’ Gaby Moncada, Carlos Moreno of Koch Mezcal, Jesse Estes of Ocho Tequila and Stuart Fritz of Mangrove come together to chat all things production, sustainability and other issues facing production. A tough blind tasting at the start will ‘see who can tell their diffuser tequila from their small batch Bacanora’… good luck with that!
The Bloomsbury Club Bar, 16-22 Great Russell Street, WC1B 3NN

Bartenders’ brunch
11am-2.30pm, Thursday 14 September
Bruxo Mezcal, Café Pacifico and Ocho Tequila have partnered to offer a top-notch brunch dedicated to you lovely lot, offering five courses alongside five mezcal and tequila cocktails. Sounds awful.
