From its small UK start, it’s evolving into one of the biggest bar comps in the industry and now Patrón’s Perfectionist has come back for 2018 with an even broader global reach.

For this year’s competition, bartenders from twenty countries across six continents are being asked to enter,  and for the first time in the competition’s four-year history this will include the US and Brazil.

Hosted each year in Mexico, competitors are asked to create a cocktail worthy of a perfectionist. Looking to the craft that goes into each bottle of the tequila, Patrón is searching for bartenders who bring to life an attention to detail and commitment to perfection through their drinks and presentation.

‘Winning the global Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition has given me a platform to showcase my passion to the world and it all started with my winning cocktail, the Dancing Bees,’ said Li Tong, last year’s winner, who hails from Lotus Lounge in Guangzhou, China.

‘Coming from a small town in China where female bartenders are not celebrated, it’s incredible to think I’ll soon be touring the Asia doing guest shifts at world-famed bars.’

With entries already open, the finals will be taking place between September and November this year.

Finalists from the 20 nations – Canada, US, Mexico, UK, Brazil, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, The UAE, South Africa, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Japan – will then meet up in Jalisco, Mexico, in January 2019, in the hope of being crowned the Patrón Perfectionist.

It’s been a busy month for Patrón, which has also recently announced José Luis León’s Verde Margarita as the winner of its 2018 Margarita of the Year. Hailing from Limantour, Mexico City, León based his drink on Patrón Silver and the simple ingredients found in the popular local green juice jugo verde.

The tequila brand is also on tour across the UK this summer, having kicked off the road trip at Brighton Foodies Festival early May. Collaborating with local bartenders in each city and at the festivals, the tour is shaping up to be as diverse as last years’.
