Having bested hundreds of entries, triumphed in their respective regional heats and, no doubt, tasted large quantities of tequila, six UK finalists have been announced for this year’s Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition.

The six finalists were Clare Morrow of The Domino Club in Leeds; Maria Kontorravdis of Doctor Inks Curiosities in Exeter; Mike Canham of the recently opened Faraway Cocktail Club in Bristol; Nicole Sykes of Satan’s Whiskers in London; Gianluca Payanello of Bar Swift, also in London; and Sarah Berardi of Draffens in Dundee.

Briefed with creating a cocktail ‘worthy of a perfectionist’ – no pressure there then – they will be going head to head in London on 10 September at Restaurant Ours.

The winner will then be shipped off to Hacienda Patrón in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, for the global final against contestants from 19 other countries to grapple for the title of Patrón. Perfectionist.

In April, Bacardi announced it had become the sole owner of Patrón Spirits, following the completion of a $5.1bn (£3.6bn) deal, making it the largest super-premium spirits company in the US.
