Luscombe rides the low-sugar wave

It’s no secret that sugar has become public enemy number one and Luscombe is responding to the ongoing witch hunt against the white stuff with a new range of organic sparkling fruit waters.

Its three new varieties – passion fuit, sour cherry and raspberry – seek to give consumers healthier options without skimping on flavour and are made with lightly carbonated Devon spring water and infused with fruit.

According to the brand, the sparkling waters have a high fruit content and contain no fruit concentrates or artificial flavourings, setting them apart from most flavoured waters.

Dalston’s rolls out three new flavours

Things are heating up at craft soft-drinks company Dalston’s as it introduces a fizzy elderflower, cherryade and ginger beer to its canned range.

Each flavour is sweetened with between 6.5g to 7.2g beet sugar per 100ml – just enough to keep it under the 8g limit as dictated by the sugar levy.

‘Recipes have been honed by our founder, who’s an ex-chef, over the past five years,’ said Dan Broughton, Dalston’s managing director. ‘We’ve managed to refine and come up with back-to-basics, lip-smackingly great-tasting softs that actually taste of the ingredients that they’re made from.’

Dalston’s has also redesigned its packaging in an effort to mirror the ‘punchy’ flavours and colours of the drinks, with sufficiently quirky hand-drawn illustrations. Of course, we wouldn’t expect anything less from a company that calls east London home.

Soho Juice Co: A fresh face in the industry

Soho Juice Co is launching two still mixers this month, marking the company’s first products for the on-trade.

Both the cucumber, mint, lemon and lime flavour and the blood orange, raspberry and ginger flavour are meant to provide an alternative to typical fizzy mixers. They can be enjoyed on their own, as an element in a virgin cocktail, or paired with something stronger.

Looking for inspiration? The cucumber blend is geared towards use in drinks with gin, vodka and white rum, while the blood orange blend complements spiced rum, sloe gin and more. Both variants work well in summery spritzes, too.
