Rocktails launch distilled botanical blend

It’s January, and for a lot of customers that sadly means less Negronis and Old Fashioneds and more mocktails and booze-less beverages.

The good news, however, is that there are more offerings out there than ever before, with Rocktails launching a non-alcoholic offering to spice up your drinks list – the Citrus Spritz.

Giving Seedlip a run for its money, the Citrus Spritz is the first in its range of distilled botanical drinks. A lightly sparkling botanical blend, it combines lemon zest with juniper berries, grapefruit peel, lavender aroma and basil.

Founded by Chris Yandell and Katie Bain, both with experience in restaurants, Rocktails uses a copper pot steam distillation process to extract botanical flavours in small batches. It is low in sugar (around 2.6g per 100ml) and, although booze-free, appeals to an adult palate, over the usual boring juice or soda option.

We haven’t tasted it yet, but we’ve heard its well balanced and delicate, with lemon zest top notes and the rounded pepperiness of juniper with notes of basil and lavender. Grapefruit peel is also said to add a dry base with slightly bitter tones.

While we’d love to try it with tonic, Rocktails recommends it served in either a stemmed balloon glass or highball over ice, garnished with a generous twist of grapefruit peel.
