Having already gained a footing in some top-end retailers, not to mention a few select bars, The Urban Cordial Company is launching in the on-trade today.
The London-based company has a range of unusual cordials, with products such as Blackcurrant & Lemongrass, Raspberry & Rosemary and Plum & Star Anise. Recipes change throughout the year as the ingredients go in and out of season, with fruit only sourced from the UK.
‘We hand make artisanal cordials,’ says founder Natasha Steele. ‘Whenever possible we use the fruits that have lumps and bumps but still taste delicious, to avoid food waste.’
Steele started the business as a hobby in 2013, eventually leaving her job in the City in March this year to work on it full time.
The range is already in venues such as Bourne & Hollingsworth and The Ledbury. ‘I am thrilled that major groups such as Drake & Morgan have taken it on and my sights are now set firmly on high-end restaurants, more bars, hotels and pub groups,’ says Steele.
‘They make for incredible infusions and flavours,’ says Dylan Murray, Drake & Morgan’s director of operations. ‘Our seasonal gimlet with strawberry and sage cordial is a case in point.’
