Bacardi Legacy announces stellar judging panel

Bacardi Legacy is turning 10, and to mark a decade of the legendary competition, Bacardi has announced a cracking judging panel for its 2018 global final.

Taking place on 1 May at Mexico City’s Museo Numismatico Nacional, the panel will include industry luminaries, such as Alex Kratena (founder of industry non-for-profit P(OUR) and former head bartender at Artesian), Ivy Mix (founder of Speedrack and co-owner of Leyenda in Brooklyn), Shingo Gokan (2012 Bacardi Legacy Global winner and owner of Shanghai’s Speak Low and Sober Company), Benjamin Padron (owner of Mexico’s Licoreria Limantour) and Carina Soto Velásquez (award-winning bartender and co-founder of Quixotic Projects).

The 10th winner of Bacardi Legacy will be crowned in front of a live audience of over 200 guests, and thousands of people watching.

‘We are beyond excited to be celebrating 10 years of Bacardi Legacy this year,’ said Dickie Cullimore, global ambassador for Bacardi rum. ‘For the past decade this competition has given huge support to the careers of hundreds of bartenders by welcoming them into Bacardi Legacy’s Gran Familia.

‘We’re thrilled to be bringing Legacy to Latin America – a place that exudes the spirit of Bacardi rum – for the first time and we can’t wait to welcome our competitors for an amazing week of education, competition and friendship.’

The global champion will travel the world serving their Legacy cocktail all around the world.

‘Since my win in 2017, so much has changed,’ added current champion, Ran Van Ongevalle. ‘I have travelled with Bacardi to New York, New Orleans, Mexico City, Miami, Puerto Rico, Dubai and Berlin. The Bacardi network has also supported my own travels currently, allowing me to host seminars and serve my Legacy drink Clarita across India and Asia. I can’t wait to be back in Mexico City to meet the 2018 finalists and help decide who wins this year!’

The global final will take place over five days in Mexico’s capital, where competitors will attend immersive workshops and will culminate in two days of semi-final competition. Eight will then progress to the global final.
