Beefeater Blood Orange gin is coming

A year after it launched its strawberry-flavoured Pink iteration, iconic gin distillery Beefeater has announced the creation of Beefeater Blood Orange.

The brand has once again credited its founder James Burrough as the inspiration for the new expression, who apparently distilled an orange gin in 1876.

‘Like our founder James Burrough, who created his first orange gin to appeal to his contemporaries almost 150 years ago, we have created this zesty new gin for the cocktail and spritz drinkers of 2019, who will love its enticing citrus aromas, bold flavours and statement shade,’ said Beefeater master distiller Desmond Payne MBE.

Beefeater has also cited the ‘growing global thirst for fruit-flavoured gin’, unsurprisingly – flavoured gin has grown 457% in value in the last year, and now comprises 28% of the gin category… if you count flavoured gin in the same bracket, of course.

‘There is a significant opportunity in the UK for orange gin,’ says Chris Ellis, commercial director for Pernod Ricard UK. ‘Orange gin has swiftly become the second fastest growing gin flavour, after pink, yet the majority of orange gins currently on the market are only available at a super-premium price.’

Beefeater recommends mixing its Blood Orange with tonic or ginger ale, or even a soda water for a low-calorie option.
