P(our) founders Kratena and Berg to launch Old Street venue

Other: Venues

Bartenders and P(our) co-founders Alex Kratena and Monica Berg have announced the coming launch of Tayēr + Elementary, their new venue opening in London’s Old Street in spring 2019.

The space will be divided into three concepts. At the front of the venue an all-day bar called Elementary will serve coffee, snacks and seasonal selection of cocktails on tap, poured from a bespoke system created by Taptails.

Behind Elementary will sit Tayēr, a more upscale offering with a hyper-focus on fresh produce in both food and drinks. The layout will see guests seated around an open counter with a view of the venue’s chefs and bartenders at work. The centre of the space will house a bar station specially designed in collaboration with Norwegian studio Behind Bars, created with flexibility and efficiency in mind.

Tayēr’s drinks menu will feature a variety of drinks beyond cocktails. Kratena and Berg have tapped different drinks producers to come up with new spirits, beers and softs that will appear on the menu, along with wines and sakes, as well.

The food offering at both Tayēr and Elementary will be provided by Ana Gonçalves and Zijun Meng of TÁ TÁ Eatery, and will employ their signature style of highlighting both Portuguese and Chinese cuisines.

Finally, Kratena and Berg are rounding out Tayēr + Elementary with a creative studio, lab and workspace they’ve dubbed Outthink.

The venue will be the first from Kratena and Berg as bar owners. Berg left her post at Oslo’s Himkok to pursue the opening, and it’s the first bar project for Kratena since he stepped down his role as Artesian’s head bartender in 2015.
