H by Hine gets a whole new look

Thomas Hine & Co has announced some fresh new packaging for its premium entry level cognac, H by Hine VSOP. The refined aesthetic is fresher and livelier, no-doubt in an attempt to appeal to the younger crowd.

It features Hine’s updated recumbent stag logo and will be available in 300cl, 70cl, 20cl and 5cl bottles. Over the course of this year, the rest of the Hine family will follow suit with the re-brand.

Eric Forget, Hine’s cellar master and estate manager, originally developed H in 2004 as a young, fruit forward VSOP blend of Grande and Petite Champagne eaux-de-vie.

Ideal as a subtle cognac base for punches and cocktails, Forget says it is ‘expressive yet discrete with hints of iris, fresh apricot, acacia and white pepper’. A 70cl bottle retails in the UK at around £34.99.

We suggest giving it a whirl in the following twist on the classic Champagne Cocktail by writer, broadcaster and friend of Imbibe, Neil Ridley. The delicate floral notes of the cognac pair well with the fruity sweetness of the apple juice (if you prefer a drier cocktail, leave out the honey).

Glass: Flute
Garnish: Maraschino Cherry
Method: Shake
37.5ml H by Hine
37.5ml quality apple juice
6.25ml light honey
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Champagne to top
