Alex Walker of the Beaufort Bar, London has bagged first place in the UK Beefeater MIXLDN 7 Cocktail Competition.
Walker’s Syon House cocktail hit the brief to create a cocktail inspired by a city they live and work in. The drink, coupled with his ‘masterclass in creating the perfect gin serve’ and ability to keep his cool impressed the judges.
Using Beefeater 24 as the spirit base, Syon House is said to have ‘perfectly encapsulated the city’s rich heritage’. Desmond Payne, Beefeater’s master distiller, said the drink was a ‘unanimous favourite’ among the judges.
‘Alex produced a fine drink with a beautiful balance of flavours – the judges’ unanimous favourite – and a good story about Beefeater 24, his favoured gin. I wish him every success against the international competition at the finals,’ he said.
After basking in his well-deserved glory, Walker will participate in a three-day programme in London to undertake a series of challenges before he represents the UK in the global finals in February.
‘The creativity of the bartenders and the quality of their drinks just gets better and better year on year, and as a result, the job of judging becomes more challenging,’ Payne added.
Walker continues his winning spree after being named champion of the 1800 Visionaries cocktail comp in April.
