The inevitable is finally upon us, Dré Masso is set to open his own bar in early November. In partnership with Eric Yu (behind The Social, amongst other venues), Masso is set to open the doors to Opium Cocktail & Dim Sum Parlour, in the heart of London’s Chinatown. Opium is spread over three floors and split into nine areas, including the Academy where Dré and his team (set to include the brilliant Esther Medina-Cuesta, most recently at Novikov) will work at a ‘bartenders’ table’ to create drinks right in front of the customer. The food will be pimped-up versions of Chinatown classics: poppy-seed-lobster toast, anyone? As for the drinks, they’re looking pretty good too, with offerings such as the Laughing Buddha: gin, triple sec, kumquats, blood-orange purée, house-made spiced syrup and citrus bitters. Sounds appropriately addictive.
Since its launch in March 2007, Imbibe magazine has established itself as the UK’s leading publication for on-trade drinks professionals. Imbibe’s editorial coverage takes in all the main drinks categories, from wine to water, spirits to soft drinks.
