Ryan Chetiyawardana, of London’s Worship Street Whistling Shop, will represent the UK at this year’s Havana Club International Cocktail Grand Prix in Cuba, after taking top spot in last week’s UK final.
Significantly more involved than your usual cocktail comp, the final was held over two days at a Landmark Trust house in Surrey. Six contestants from around the UK were judged on various aspects of the two days, including the creation of two cocktails. The first was paired with one of six courses served by the team behind Soho restaurant Ducksoup, while the second was a presentation of their qualifying drink.
Lectures from high-profile speakers such as Foodpairing‘s Bernard Lahousse, and Dave Broom, as well as activities such as archery and air rifle shooting, kept contestants busy for the remainder of their time in Surrey.
