In the last issue of Imbibe we covered the UK heats of Disaronno’s Mixing Star 2012 competition, which saw Quo Vadis’ Luca Missaglia take the Southern heat by storm, and Elsa Holmberg from Brass Monkey in Nottingham win it up north. Following their victories though, it was far from over, as the duo were whisked away to Berlin for the global final and to vie for the prize, a part in a Bollywood film.
Some 700 entrants had been whittled down to a clutch of premier league bartenders, who had come from as far afield as Canada and Russia who performed in front of a film crew and an audience, which included Imbibe, at Berlin’s super-swish Solar Bar. In spite of strong performances on both their parts, they were both beaten by Milan’s Francesco Cione and his signature Disaronno drink, the DisarHollywood, which nodded to the competition’s Bollywood prize, with ingredients including cardamom syrup and mango juice.
Will Thompson, brand manager for Disaronno with its UK distributor First Drinks said of the competition, ‘Mixing Star is going from strength to strength, giving bartenders from different markets the opportunity to meet and share ideas, as well as provide us with a platform to expose the brand to a raft of influential players in the on-trade.’
