Last night at the ninth annual World’s 50 Best Bars, American Bar at the Savoy took home the title of World’s Best Bar and Best Bar in Europe.
The bar jumped one place to take the top spot from New York’s Dead Rabbit, in the ranking that is voted for by over 500 industry experts.
Proving again how well respected the UK’s bar scene is, four of the top 10 were London-based bars. Number two was claimed by Dandelyan, number four by the Connaught Bar and number nine by Bar Termini.
Last year’s World’s Best Bar The Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog fell to number five.
‘As the longest surviving American Bar in London, one of the most iconic in the world, steeped in rich history, the American Bar at the Savoy is extremely proud to have received one of the highest accolades in the bar industry today,’ said bar manager Declan McGurk.
‘This is an incredible achievement for the American Bar and a very proud moment in my sever-year career as head bartender here,’ added head bartender Erik Lorincz. ‘We are preserving the legacy and worldwide reputation the bar has established in its 128-year history, and it demonstrates that the American Bar continues to be a leader in the industry after so many years’.
We couldn’t be happier for them.
