Tommo Quy takes top spot in Absolut #13thClassic

Location: England

IMG_20160129_143115The winner of today’s Absolut #13thClassic comp final is Tommo Quy of Captain’s Club Hotel near Bournemouth, pictured right.

The competition, in its first year, challenged bartenders to come up with a cocktail to join the ranks of 12 other classic vodka drinks. Quy’s entry, Absolut Revival, earned him top spot out of five finalists at The Exhibit in Balham today. It combined Absolut, bianco vermouth, lime cordial and plum bitters, and was garnished with a dried apple slice.

Mixellany’s Anistatia Miller, one the judges, began today’s final with a discussion about the 12 classics, from White Russians to Cosmos, via Caipiroskas and Bloody Marys. The finalists then competed against each other to shake the coldest Lemon Drop to the loudest applause, a round that Quy also aced – but just a warm up before demonstrating their signature cocktails.

Bartenders had submitted videos of their entries, with the best 10 posted on Absolut’s Facebook page to allow the public to whittle the list down to today’s five finalists. Also competing today were Simon Taylor from Blind Tiger, Robert Drayton from The Billiard Bar, South Lodge Hotel, Ryan Adair from The Cocktail Bar at the Merchant Hotel, and Charley Carrington from Rub Smokehouse & Bar.
