Glengoyne told Imbibe that the series will contain three or four expressions. The first, dubbed Chapter One, will be launched globally on Monday 18 February, while Chapter Two is due to be released this time next year.
The Glengoyne Legacy Series: Chapter One is a tribute to distillery manager Cochrane Cartwright, revolutionised the production of Glengoyne whisky in 1869. He slowed down the distillation time to a third of the industry average, with the aim of maximising fruitiness in the final spirit. He also introduced the use of sherry casks for maturation. The Chapter One is bottled non-chill filtered at a strength of 48% abv.
According to the brand, the first expression of the Legacy Series displays rich fruity aromas, complemented by notes of sticky toffee pudding, dates, vanilla custard, pear and cinnamon. On the palate it’s mouth coating and thick, revealing flavours of sultanas, vanilla and marked sweet, fruity sherry notes from the use of oloroso casks for maturation. The finish is characterised by hints of dried fruits and spices.
