After three years in the making, Kyrö Distillery has released its first whisky, Finnish Single Malt Rye.
Matured in new American oak casks, the liquid is then transferred to first-fill bourbon barrels before being finished in Marsala casks.
Finnish Single Malt Rye stock is considerably smaller than planned, due to the popularity of Kyrö’s Napue Gin. Only 360 bottles have been produced in the first batch.
If you’re not familiar with Kyrö (where have you been?), it was borne out of a five-man sauna in Finland. No, really. It was in the fated sauna the friends wondered why nobody had thought to make a rye whisky in Finland.
The rest, as they say, is history. Kyrö is produced in an old dairy in Isokyrö, on the north-western coast of the country.
