The Balvenie names Gemma Paterson global ambassador

Yesterday might have been International Women’s Day, but we’re still celebrating at Imbibe towers, as Gemma Paterson is named global brand ambassador for The Balvenie.


Getting to know the team

Taking over from Sam Simmons, Paterson is no stranger to the Scottish single malt whisky brand, having spent the past two years as The Balvenie ambassador for East Coast USA.

Don’t let her US experience fool you, Paterson was born in the Scottish Highlands, growing up in the Hebridean Isle of Lewis. After graduating from the University of Glasgow, Paterson spent time at The Balvenie distillery, where she gained first-hand experience studying the art and science behind Scotch malt whisky production.

If that wasn’t embodiying the brand enough, Paterson also obtained a General Certificate in Distillation from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling, where she is currently working towards her three-year Diploma.

Her time spent at The Balvenie distillery earned Paterson a place on the William Grant & Sons’ Nosing Panel, where she had first-hand experience working with master distiller David Stewart MBE at his tasting room in Glasgow.

‘Words can’t express how excited I am to start this next chapter in my career with The Balvenie,’ said Paterson on her new position. ‘I feel so privileged to take up such a prestigious role and be given the opportunity to play a part in the history of this great distillery.’

‘Having known Gemma for a number of years now, it’s abundantly clear that she has all of the credentials needed to succeed within the role of global ambassador,’ said Simmons of his successor. ‘Gemma’s dedication to the distillery and passion for sharing the wonderful world of Scotch whisky will set in her good stead for the future. I hope she invites me to a tasting soon!’

It’s seems to be all go for the Scottish distillery, as it recently launched The Year of the Single Malt…in association with the Lanesborough Hotel.
