Berkmann Wine Cellars adds more New World to portfolio

Drinks: Wines
Location: Australia, New Zealand

Berkmann Wine Cellars is breathing even more life into its growing portfolio with the addition of three new wineries to its books: Babich Wines from New Zealand, Unico Zelo, and Harvest from South Australia and Margaret River’s Woodlands.

The first, family-owned and operated Babich dates back to 1916 and has more than 100 vintages under its belt. Although based in Auckland, the winery has vineyards in 13 sites across NZ including Marlborough and Hawke’s Bay. The wines will be available to taste at the Flavours of New Zealand tasting on 15 January.

Unico Zelo and Harvest are two small labels produced from a small winery in the Adelaide Hills. The winery – run young couple Brendan and Laura Carter – has been around for seven years.

Unico Zelo is a range of Italian varieties, sourced from growers in the Riverland and Clare Valley. Harvest, on the other hand, is a grower-cooperative for farmers in the Northern Adelaide Hills.

Finally, the other Oz winery Woodlands is set in The Wilyabrup Valley of Western Australia’s Margaret River. Owned by the Watson family, the vineyards are dry grown and maintained using organic and traditional methods.

Unico Zelo/Harvest and Woodlands will be available to taste very soon at the Australia Day tasting on 23 January.
