Berkmann Wine Cellars swaps Santa Rita for Morandé

Drinks: Wines
Location: Chile

Berkmann Wine Cellars has announced it will mix up its Chilean portfolio and swap Santa Rita for Morandé.

The addition of Morandé to its portfolio, alongside existing Chilean agencies Lapostolle and Haras de Pirque, will give customers access to a range of Chilean wines that deliver at all price points and across all channels, it says.

The entry point Pionero range is said to showcase fruit-forward varietals in a bright, modern style, while The One to One Estate Reserve wines show ‘added complexity and structure’. Morande’s Gran Reserva wines come from the ‘very best’ plots of its estate vineyards.

Berkmann says the use of large oak foudres as well as smaller barrels allow each variety to express its character. While Morandé Adventure is said to highlight the exciting developments in the southern regions of Maule and Itata.

‘Well-established yet forward-thinking, Morandé is perfectly poised to propel Berkmann’s Chilean portfolio to the next level,’ Alex Hunt MW, purchasing director at Berkmann Wine Cellars, said. ‘While pushing the boundaries of the country’s wine offering, they also remain committed to a core range of exceptional quality and value for money. We are looking forward enormously to developing a fruitful long-term partnership.’

Javier Calvo, commercial director at Morandé added: ‘We are extremely excited to be working with a distributor of Berkmann’s scale and pedigree. With more than 50 years’ experience servicing all channels, they offer us the ideal route to market for our world-class wines.’

Berkmann will become the exclusive agent and distributor on 1 July 2017.
