Charles Heidsieck unveils Blanc des Millénaires 2004

Champagne Charles Heidsieck has launched Blanc des Millénaires 2004, the first new vintage for the cult all-Chardonnay cuvée in almost a decade.

Although the house made its first 100% Chardonnay vintage as long ago as 1949, this is only the fifth release of Blanc des Millénaires, following the first release from 1983, then 1985, 1990 and 1995.

CHARLES HEIDSIECK Charles Heidsieck said the lengthy gap between the last two vintages was the result of ‘certain radical decisions taken by the house about quality and cellaring potential’.

‘The fabulously fresh 2004 version already offers the beautiful colour, long finish and silky texture so characteristic of this cuvée,’ said Cyril Brun, cellar master at Charles Heidsieck.

The blend combines five crus from the Côte des Blancs: Oger for ‘unctuousness and structure’; Mesnil-sur-Oger for balance; Avize for minerality; Cramant for complexity; and Vertus for freshness and floral characteristics.

Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millénaires will be poured exclusively at the Ritz in London during February, as Charles Heidsieck will be champagne of the month.

In November, we reported on a record-breaking Charles Heidsieck vintage collection going under the hammer.
