Satisfying the nation’s thirst for fizz, Spanish wine producer Castillo Perelada has added a new lightly sparkling wine, Blanc Pescador, to its UK portfolio.
A blend of 60% Macabeo, 20% Parellada and 20% Xarel-lo, Blanc Pescador is made using natural fermentation, and is fine, light and has a natural sparkle (pétillant). In Spanish these wines are called vinos de aguja, which means ‘needle-wines’.
Coming in at 11.5% abv, the wine has only 4g of residual sugar per litre, and is said to have a fresh palate with subtle aromatic fruity hints, zingy acidity and a crisp refreshing finish with a gentle spritz.
Hailing from the Empordà region, north of Barcelona, the family-owned Castillo Perelada is one of the leading wineries in Spain, and a much-respected cava producer. Perelada’s 2,500-hectare Empordà vineyards are harvested for premium still wines, with the region now lauded as one of the most prestigious DO’s in Spain.
Sales of the sparkling white have been entrusted to independent Scottish wine merchant, Inverarity Morton.
