Magnum-only for Devaux’s latest champagne

Champagne Devaux has released its latest vintage cuvée exclusively in a 150cl magnum format. Collector 2005 is a blend of 90% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs and 10% Pinot Noir from the Côte des Bar. Matured in the cellar for at least 10 years, it received extra cellaring for at least three months after dosage.

Speaking about the 2005 vintage, chef de cave Michel Parisot commented: ‘The winter had temperatures below zero, spring was fresh and humid, but June was very hot. There were a lot of storms at the end of June and beginning of July. The weather in August was very fresh, but in the end we had the chance to harvest under the sun.

‘The crop this year was classic in Champagne with a good quantity of grappes, but not too many. We obtained a beautiful maturity with a good level of acidity. The wines were very clean with a good balance and substance of flavours on the palate. It was a very nice year for the Chardonnay and particularly for Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. This explains why we decided to make this blend of Collector 2005.’

A very vinous style of champagne, it has aromas of Russet apple, crisp green apple, and buttery pastry. The lively palate has a hazelnut mousse character, with citrus freshness on the finish.

Only 300 bottles of Champagne Devaux Collector 2005 in magnum will be available to the UK from September 2017, out of a total production of 2,000 bottles.

The oldest house in the Côte des Bar, Devaux was founded in 1846 and works with almost 800 growers, exclusively with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes.
