Maisons Marques et Domaines to distribute Rhône’s Delas Frères

Drinks: Wines
Location: France
Other: Business

Rhône producer Delas Frères will be exclusively distributed by Maisons Marques et Domaines (MMD) in the UK from 1 April, it has been announced.

The move is part of a ‘new era’ for Delas, which has included the opening of a new winery, vineyard acquisitions and a ‘more modern approach’ under winemakers Jacques Grange and Claire Darnaud.

Ultimately owned by Champagne Louis Roederer, but run independently by Champagne Deutz CEO Fabrice Rosset, Delas joins Roederer in the MMD portfolio, alongside the champagne house’s other wineries, including Domaines Ott, Ramos Pinto, Château Pichon Lalande, Château de Pez and Château Haut-Beauséjour.

‘We are delighted to be welcoming Delas into the MMD UK portfolio as this historic Rhône producer not only fills an obvious gap in the portfolio, but also complements perfectly our existing proposition from France,’ said Richard Billett, managing director of MMD.

‘We are excited about the opportunities its arrival will offer us to engage with our customers in a category whose great diversity of style, price point and appeal make it a key appellation for both the on- and off-trade.’

Founded in 1835, Delas has worked to revive its fortunes in recent years, including a number of vineyard acquisitions, the building of a new, gravity-fed vat house, and the reconstruction of its cellars.
