Leading UK drinks supplier Matthew Clark has announced a hefty expansion to its wine portfolio for autumn – and it’s all gone a bit fizzy.
In line with the growing share of consumer palates, 16 sparkling wines will join the ranks – out of a total of 83 new juices in the range – including two champagnes from Tsarine wines and four from family-owned Alexandre Bonnett.
And with so much noise being made about English sparklers, it’s no surprise Matthew Clark have kept things close to home and added a pair from Coates & Seely and four from Greyfriars.
‘With current market trends in mind, every wine we choose for our range is carefully selected to benefit our on-trade customers, so that they are always ahead of their competition when it comes to quality and on-trend wine selections,’ said Laurie Davis, head of wine strategy.
Austrian and German wines have also been growing in popularity, and this is reflected in the addition of wines from from Austrian vintner Robert Goldenits and German producer Weingut Winter.
The New World is not left out either, with additions from Oregon, the Finger Lakes region and Uruguay making an appearance.
Under its Wine Expressions system, Matthew Clark has also assigned each new product a Wine Expressions icon, ranging from ranging from ‘dry, refreshing, delicate, light whites’ to ‘sophisticated, polished, complex reds’. This system not only helps customers but is useful for wine lists which are organised by style rather than region.
In July, Matthew Clark confirmed an expansion of its Boutique Beers and Cider House range.
