More than 50 fortified wine brands will represent 14 regions from around the world at the inaugural Big Fortified Tasting – BFT for short – next month.
Quinta do Noval, Gonzalez Byass and Henriques & Henriques are a few of the names signed up to the trade-only tasting, which takes place at Glazier’s Hall in London on 19 April.
The traditional styles of Port and Sherry are well-represented, including big names like Sandeman, Fonseca, Domecq and Hidalgo. But more youthful producers such as Wine & Soul and Fernando de Castilla will also be on show.
Beyond the core styles of Port, Sherry and Madeira, a number of variations on the fortified theme will be available, including Marsala, Setubal, Banyuls and Maury, as well as representatives from Australia and California.
The BFT is the brainchild of Danny Cameron, who has long experience of working with fortified wine brands. The idea is to provide a focused showcase for fortified wines – born out of the frustration that these wines are often perceived as ‘ever the bridesmaid, never the bride’ in more general tastings.
