The Argento Wine Company has been sold by Bibendum to an Argentine company, Inversora Agroindustrial Sudamericana.

The company’s new owners already have several hundred hectares of Mendozan vineyards, in addition to Bodega Vistalba, Bodega Garzon in Uruguay and Renwood Winery in California.

Argento was set up in 1999, a joint venture between Bibendum and Bodega Esmeralda. It’s now available in 50 countries.

Amelia Nolan, Argento’s managing director, commented: ‘We have always positioned ourselves to be close to our markets, and integrating our business with the vineyards required will enable us to further develop the huge potential that we believe premium wine from Argentina has around the world.’
