Negociants UK announced today that it will now be dealing with the on-trade and independent sectors directly for the first time.
Managing director Simon Thorpe MW said: ‘There is no substitute for having our own people represent our wines in market. In short, we want our customers to be as close to the wineries and winemakers as possible.’
The merchant of Australian and New Zealand wine, a subsidiary of Yalumba Wine Company, formerly sold wine to the on-trade through Berkmann Wine Cellars. A dedicated Negociants UK team will now work with London accounts, while a network of distributors will sell to the on-trade outside of the M25.
Thorpe added: ‘We are a business which will now sell into all channels of the UK wine trade. We recognise that there is often a need to keep wines separate into these different channels and as such we have recently augmented our portfolio with wines aimed specifically at the independent trade, both on and off.’
To complement this, the company has launched what it calls an ‘Indies Programme’, with incentives and support, as well as a winemaker tour in September. Winemakers from a number of producers in the portfolio will tour the UK, such as those from Brokenwood, Vasse Felix, Jim Barry Wines and Ara Wines.
