Ca’Marcanda, the Tuscan wine estate owned by Gaja, is to be represented exclusively by Bibendum Wine in the on-trade and independent sector.
The estate in Bolgheri, in the Maremma region south of Livorno, was bought by Angelo Gaja in 1996, since when it has been extensively replanted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah.
Bibendum will initially import three wines from Ca’Marcanda: Promis 2010 (RRP £24.99), Magari 2009 (£34.99) and Ca’Marcanda 2008 (£59.99).
‘It is not every day that you get the opportunity to work with one of the most famous families in wine,’ said Stuart Grundy, Bibendum Wines’ director of buying for the northern hemisphere.
‘Gaja’s Piedmont wines are a benchmark for that region, and Ca’Marcanda is quickly establishing a similar reputation for uncompromising quality in Tuscany.’
Gaia Gaja, Angelo Gaja’s daughter and the company’s export director, said the move began a ‘new chapter’ for the wine in the UK, designed to build the Ca’Marcanda brand in top-quality restaurants.
The wines will be shown at Bibendum Wine’s Artisan Tasting at London’s Soho Gallery on 24 September, and will be available from the end of September.
