Noval goes Black to the future

Drinks: Fortified, Port, Wines

Quinta de Noval is taking advantage of its significant programme of vineyard replanting to launch a new port within the next couple of months, according to sources within the company.

Noval Black is classified as a premium ruby (though actually sits in between ruby and reserve port) and is decidedly modern in style. Soft, round and fruit- rather than wood-driven, it comes in a non-traditional bottle with a black and silver label.

‘Quality wise it’s a lot better than ruby, while stylistically it’s a lot different to an LBV,’ said the company source.

The brand has already launched in the US, where it’s ‘going crazy’ according to the company, and sells for $23. The UK price has yet to be decided, but is likely to be around £15 rrp, and less to the trade.
